Chisholm Trail Farms: The Premier Source for Fresh, High-Quality Kansas Winter Wheat
At Chisholm Trail Farms, we are a family-owned and operated farm in the heart of Kansas, “The Wheat State.” With a rich history of growing wheat dating back to before Kansas became a state, we are excited to continue this tradition of growing wheat and other crops using sustainable and eco-friendly methods.
Our Kansas Red Winter Wheat is grown on our own land or family land, near the historic Chisholm Trail and Santa Fe Trail. Our ancestors brought Turkey red wheat to North America, which became the main type of wheat grown on the central plains and the ancestor of most of the hard red wheat varieties grown today. Now today we have branched out into other varieties and have added hard white winter wheat and also soft white winter wheat! Kansas weather does not always allow us to grow a good crop of soft white wheat but there are years that we will have it available!
Our Kansas Red Winter Wheat is a versatile and nutritious grain that is rich in fiber, protein, vitamins, and minerals. Its rich, nutty flavor and versatile texture make it the perfect ingredient for a variety of dishes, including bread, pasta, cereal, and more.
Hard white wheat is good for bread, pizza, and pasta. It has a rich and toasty flavor. It has a more moderate protein content and is lighter in color. It is also thought to have a sweeter and milder taste.
Soft white wheat if great for baking cakes, cookies, pastries, and pie crusts. Its lower protein and gluten content make for light flour and tender baked goods.
